A guide for those ready to shift deep-rooted patterns
How to Prepare for a Family Constellation Session?
Family Constellations can be a deeply transformative experience. It’s not just about understanding your family history—it’s about uncovering hidden loyalties, unspoken pain, and unconscious dynamics that quietly shape your present.

Many people come to a session not knowing what to expect. That’s okay. You don’t need to have it all figured out. But there are a few gentle steps you can take to prepare and get the most out of this powerful work.
What Is a Family Constellation Session?
A Family Constellation session is a facilitated process where the client explores family dynamics, unresolved trauma, and hidden loyalties. This work is rooted in the understanding that we are deeply connected to the experiences of our ancestors. In both group and individual sessions, participants tap into the systemic field to uncover and heal the invisible influences affecting their lives.
Why Is Preparation Important?
Being emotionally and mentally prepared allows you to engage more fully with the process and helps the facilitator guide you toward meaningful insights. While you don’t need to know everything about your family history, approaching the session with an open heart and mind is essential.
Steps to Prepare for Your Family Constellation Session
Clarify Your Intention
Before your session, reflect on the issue you want to explore. Common topics include relationship challenges, health concerns, emotional struggles, and patterns that seem to repeat across generations. Having a clear intention will guide the process and allow the systemic field to reveal what needs to be seen.
Gather Family Information
While you don’t need an exhaustive family tree, basic details can be helpful. Consider these questions:
  • Are there any significant events (e.g., early deaths, divorces, migrations)?
  • Were any family members excluded or forgotten?
  • Are there repeating patterns of illness, relationship issues, or trauma? Even if you lack certain information, trust that the constellation will reveal what is most important.
Adopt an Open Mindset
Family Constellations works on a deep, often unconscious level. You may encounter unexpected insights or emotions. Approach the session without rigid expectations, allowing the process to unfold organically.
Practice Self-Care Before the Session
Emotional work can be intense, so it's helpful to take care of yourself leading up to the session. Get enough rest, stay hydrated, and engage in calming practices like meditation or gentle movement.
What to Expect During a Family Constellation Session
As we are working online, you’ll need a laptop with a screen big enough to clearly see the Field, which I demonstrate via Zoom. All representatives and witnesses join with their cameras on.
At the beginning of the session, I guide a gentle meditation to help everyone connect with their senses and focus on the Field.

We use a special program for constellations that includes a variety of figures and objects.
The session lasts about 2 hours, sometimes a bit longer. At the end, we take some time to share and reflect on the experience and results of the process.
Tips for After Your Family Constellation Session
Be Gentle with Yourself
Emotional shifts can continue long after the session ends. Allow yourself to rest and process what has emerged.
Observe Changes
Pay attention to subtle shifts in your feelings, relationships, and life patterns. Healing often happens gradually and profoundly.
Journal Your Insights
Writing down your reflections can help you track the changes and deepen your understanding.
"It is easier to suffer than to solve the problem."
What Issues Can Family Constellations Address?
Family Constellations can be beneficial for a wide range of personal and relational challenges, including:
  • Difficult family relationships (parents, siblings, partners)
  • Repeating life patterns (such as relationship conflicts or financial struggles)
  • Emotional struggles like anxiety, guilt, and grief
  • Physical symptoms with no clear medical cause
  • Unexplained feelings of disconnection or loneliness
  • Inherited trauma and generational burdens
  • Issues related to identity, belonging, or purpose
The Transformative Power of Seeing the Whole System
One of the most profound aspects of Family Constellations is its ability to reveal how deeply we are connected to those who came before us. By seeing and acknowledging the larger family field, healing can flow where it was previously blocked. Many people experience a profound sense of relief, greater self-acceptance, and a renewed ability to move forward in life with clarity and ease.
Whether you are struggling with personal issues, seeking answers to persistent patterns, or longing for deeper connection and healing, Family Constellations can offer a transformative path. This work goes beyond the individual, touching the roots of your family system and bringing a profound sense of belonging and freedom.
